Harry James Austin
October 04, 1930 - July 27, 2020
Harry James Austin, 89, of Floyd, VA, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 27, 2020. Harry had been retired for many years from Akzo Noble in Roanoke where he worked as a machine operator. He loved the beauty of Floyd County and the many friends he had in this community. He came to know the Lord while attending Floyd Baptist Church where he was a member for 26 years. He loved gospel music, was an avid hunter, loved photographing the local wildlife and scenery, watching sports on TV, especially baseball, and making his rounds each day to local restaurants and establishments. He especially looked forward to time with his friends each morning at Hardeeās. Harry served in the Korean War and was a very proud patriot. He is predeceased by his spouse of 64 years and the love of his life, Mary Joanna Austin; his son, Kenneth Austin; daughter, Connie White; grandson, Eric Austin; and great-grandson, Aiden James Austin. He is survived by his son Lewis Austin; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Lorraine Austin; daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Keith Noell and daughter Nelthia Barton. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Travis White, Ashley Meredith, Michelle Blankenship, Brandon Austin, Crystal Jones, Josh Noell, Evan Noell, Ann Marie Fortune, Cassie Barton, Jane Casey, and Amanda Barton; and 24 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Vest Cemetery, Floyd, VA at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ken Nienke will be officiating.
