Mark Andrew Proctor

May 19, 1958 - February 19, 2021

On February 19, 2021, Floyd, Virginia resident, Mark Andrew Proctor “New Moon”, met his end at age 62. He was born May 19, 1958, to Phillip S. Proctor and Martha Brooks Proctor. Mark is survived by his two sons, Jeremiah Proctor and Zachariah Courtney, their Mother, Gwen Courtney-Christensen his grandchildren, Odin, Till, Stella, and Annikka, and many family and friends not named. Mark was known as Chief, artist, musician, pipe keeper, builder, and most notably, a storyteller. Mark was never short for words and was willing to tell his stories to anyone who would listen. He was always available to listen to others as well. Anyone who met Mark was impacted by his incomparable kindness and generosity. He was also a magnificent dancer who could not resist the dance floor or taking a lady by the hand and making her smile. His positive energy was contagious, and he was quick to make friends. “Love. Prayers to his family Mark was my neighbor and always so nice to my cousin and my aunt who lives across from his place.

My heart breaks from the loss of this incredible man. Such a vibrant soul always willing to share his light, energy, wisdom, love and kindness. Without a doubt he touched everyone who knew him. I among many will miss the talks, the dance and the music that lived in him Rock on my friend.

The world is a little smaller, the sky a little grayer, and our tears are heavier due to his passing. He will be missed.

Mark, What a great person you are. You always made me feel like Floyd has always been my home. I will miss running into you at Dogtown and hearing all your stories. I'm blessed to have known you.

My most sincere condolences to Mark's family and close friends. I was only privileged to meet him on one occasion, but he made an indelible impression. Such a friendly, kind, gracious man! I know his family and close friends have many, many wonderful memories to sustain them.

Wisdom does not come from books. Teachers do not always have degrees. Our willingness to share and endure together make us who we are. My own life was enriched in the short time I knew him. Life is not always the way we want it to be. My heart goes out to all his family.

I miss you already my friend and brother Mark. You were there for me when literally no one else was. You helped me heal and become a better man. I guess we won't make it to Sundance together after all. Hug our Creator for me. You know I love ya, I told you so two weeks ago the last time I saw you here on earth. See you again soon Longhair.

Let your light shine so brightly that others may find their way out of the darkness. To his sons and all who loved Mark, I am so sorry for your loss and sorrow. Mark was fun and funny. He left an impression on me as I'm sure he did on many. I will miss him. My prayers are for his soul & spirit and for his family.
