John Alton Poff

John Alton Poff, 67 years old, of Copper Hill, VA suddenly passed away on Saturday, October 9th, 2021. He was a lifetime member of Mount Union Church of the Brethren in Bent Mountain, VA. He was a man of God, who maintained a moral compass throughout his life. John was the ultimate truck driver for 37 years working with various companies lastly being Hatchett Transportation Inc in Bassett, VA. John was a United States Army Veteran. He was a loving, caring and devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather. John was a good friend to all. John could light up a room with his stories and songs. The world has lost one of its great voices and storytellers. John had a beautiful singing voice and will now be entertaining his loved ones in Heaven. John is preceded in death by his father Albert Harvey Poff, Sr and mother Lela DeWeese Poff of Bent Mountain, VA. John leaves behind wife of 34 years, Sue C. Poff, daughter Sheri Poff, of Copper Hill, VA, son and daughter in law Matthew and Katie Poff and Grandson Alton James Poff of Pigeon Forge, TN, and his beloved basset hound Todd. He also leaves behind his two brothers Albert Harvey Poff, Jr and wife Ouida, of Pulaski, VA, Michael D. Poff of Roanoke, VA, and two sisters Charlotte P. Austin of Roanoke, VA and Shelby P. Davis of Midlothian, VA. John will be missed by all! His family will miss him forever! Heaven has gained another Angel! The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 14th, 2021, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Gardner Funeral Home at 202 E Oxford St, Floyd, VA 24091. Funeral service to celebrate the life of John Alton Poff will begin at 11 am with Pastor Greg Fleshman officiating at Gardner Funeral Home on Friday, October 15th, 2021. John will be laid to rest at Restvale Cemetery in Copper Hill, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Union Church of the Brethren at 9420 Bent Mountain Rd, Bent Mountain, VA 24059. Or donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
