Jettie Eloise McCoy, 79, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. She went peacefully at her daughters’ home in Floyd, VA; surrounded by family and caregivers. Eloise was born and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1981 she began working at Virginia Tech in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where she dedicated 24 years of service before retiring in 2005. In life after retirement, she enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, working with flowers, puzzles and crafting. She had a great sense of humor and a strong loving soul. She will be missed dearly. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Garland and Jettie Stepp Gear, her sister Archiann Chambers, and her brother Gail Gear. Eloise is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Jimmy Conner and son and daughter-in-law Mike and Lesley Lafon; grandchildren, Heather (Mitchell) Nolen, James Michael (Lesley) Lively, Alissa Soloman, Michael Scott (Emily) Lafon, Emiline Lafon, and 10 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a very special thank you to Ashley Jones who provided Eloise in home care. Ashley brought joy to Eloise’s life in her final days and months. Also, a very special thank you to the nurses and doctors on the PCU Floor at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Grandchildren James Michael and Heather want to express how thankful we are for our mother, Nicole for providing our MeMe the best care she could have had, giving her more time here on earth with us. MeMe would have wanted our mother to know how grateful she was for her. Services will be held on December 4, 2021 at 12PM at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd, VA with Pastor Eddie Roberts officiating. The family will receive visitors from 11 am to 12 pm, followed by a memorial service.
