Hayden Randolph “Randy” Epperly

April 20, 1957 - December 23, 2024

Hayden Randolph “Randy’ Epperly of Floyd, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the age of 67.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston R. “Buck” Epperly and Mary B. Epperly, as well as his sister, Rose E. Basham.

He is survived by his daughter and son-on-law, Kelly J. Epperly and Brantley Walden, his son and daughter-in-law, Travis W. and April Epperly, grand-daughter, Hayden J. Walden, step-grandchildren, Carly Walden, Ben Walden, and Isla McKinney, brother-in-law James A. Basham, niece, Kesha B. Belcher, great-nephews, Jamie and Kamren Belcher, and special friends, John Hall, Roscoe Hall, as well as John Paul Thomas and work family at Thomas Industrial Fabrication. Also, his faithful dog Teddy.

He graduated from Floyd County High School in 1975, and then attended New River Community College, where he earned an Associates Degree in Tool and Die Making in 1977.

During his life, he worked at Precision Tool and Die, Whitlock’s Garage, Federal Mogul, Cedarhenge Tree Farm, and then went on to own his own business, Kriket Tree Farm. The last 8 years, he has worked at Thomas Industrial Fabrication, where he was known as “Papa”.

He loved “puttering” around the family farm in Possum Hollow, gardening, “tinkering” with things, and taking care of his “critters”, as well as his Saturday morning breakfasts with John Hall, and Sunday visits with his pride and joy, “Little Bit” (Hayden).

You always knew when you saw him you were going to hear some interesting stories and have a few laughs. He was always willing to help others and would give them the shirt off his back.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2025, 11 am to 1 pm at Gardner Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Floyd County Humane society.

Kelly,Brantley, and Hayden, I was so sad to learn of the recent loss of your love one. How proud he must have always been to have sweet Hayden named after him. I got to sit and talk awhile with him at Hayden's last birthday party. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
