Franklin Douglas Wood

January 26, 1942 - August 14, 2025

Franklin Douglas Wood, 83, of Copper Hill, passed away on Thursday August 14, 2025. Doug was a member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. He was the Last living child of Willard and Addie Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Wood (Mary); sisters, Alice Farmer (Earl), and Louis Lancaster (Evert).

Left to treasure his memories are 4 children Dale (Dana) of Atlanta, Dean (Dena) of Floyd, Dawn (Chris) of Myrtle Beach, Dexter (Donna) of Copper Hill; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Doug is also survived by his loving wife of 63 years Donnie, who was his high school sweetheart with whom he eloped with while Donnie was still in school. Doug worked 30 years with Piedmont Airlines/ U.S. Air. He retired as a supervisor. He enjoyed the airlines, Dallas Cowboys, and had a hard-core love for bluegrass music. “Rest in peace Pops!”

Funeral services will be held on Sunday August 17, 2025, at 2PM at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery, The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time from 12pm-2pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Copper Hill Church of the Brethren in Doug’s honor. Special thanks to Skyline nursing home and hospice for their tender love and care.
