Russell Newman

September 13, 1948 - January 10, 2026

Russell Newman, 77, of Floyd, passed away Saturday January 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Russell was a quiet and reserved family man. Russell was a man of many talents, he played in a band “The Golden Embers”, he collected many vintage automobiles. He enjoyed all types of racing; he was a drag racer, the crew chief of the Newman go-cart racing team, and he was a big Dale Earnhardt fan. He was an avid hunter and excellent marksman at bow hunting and target shooting winning awards at the state level. Russell also enjoyed cheering for the Washington Redskins.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Odell & Maggie Newman; sisters: Sandra Newman Carr, Carla Newman Nunley; nephew: Corey Newman; parents-in-law: Charlie & Lois Clark; brother-in-law: Larry Clark; nephew-in-law: Travis Clark. Survived by loving wife of 59 ½ years: Linda Clark Newman; son: Christopher Newman (Leslie); grandsons: Jacob Newman, Zachary Newman; granddaughter: Lauren Furrow; great-grandchildren: Olivia & Camden Newman, Austin & Jackson Furrow; three brothers: Wayne Newman (Vickie), Tony Newman, Kenny Newman (Louise), brothers-in-law: Stacey Clark (Shelley), Reed Carr; sister-in-law: Irene Clark. A host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday January 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before service time.
