Harry Kenneth Yates

January 21, 1953 - January 16, 2026

Harry Kenneth Yates, Born January 21, 1953, of Check, VA., went to be with his lord and savior on January 16, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents Perry Bayne Yates and Ora Conner Yates; brother, G.W. Yates ( Liz); nephew, Calvin Yates; brother-in-law, Cletus Thomas; and sister-in-law, Diane Yates.

Left to cherish his memory is his sisters, Shirley Yates Thomas, Elizabeth Yates McCloud; brother, Earl Bayne Yates; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A graduate of Floyd County High School, he was a long-time member of the Little white church in Check. Harry was a dedicated person carrying trash and boxes out for the Country Store of Check, hauling trash off for family and neighbors and anyone who would call him. You might pass him on the road picking up trash where he would spend many hours making the road look better. He would tell you he was doing some work for God keeping the community clean and keeping his faith, Let us all do our part and not throw trash out on the roadways.

A Funeral Service will take place on Monday January 19, 2026, at 11am, at Gardner Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg Howell and Minister Mike Zeman officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday January 18, 2026, from 3pm to 5pm at Gardner Funeral Home. 

Sorry for your loss. He was a very sweet man. I have very fond memories of visiting with him at Leigh Ann’s house when we were small.

Harry was truly a wonderful fellow he did a lot for the community and he was one of them type people that was always there if you needed a hand great fellow. going to be truly missed 😞😞
