Wayne Pennell

February 05, 1940 - September 19, 2026

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Wayne Pennell, 86,of Floyd, left his earthly home on September 19, 2026.

Wayne was a beloved OB/Gyn physician in the New River Valley for many years, caring for generations of families. He was deeply loved by his wife, BJ Bauermeister; daughters, Amanda Pennell and Victoria Pennell; his son, Todd Pennell (deceased); stepchildren Ginger Flynn, Robyn Peer, Glenn Bywater and Charlie Belcher, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by adopted sons Daniel Bower and Tommy Meeks who will forever cherish his memory and mourn his passing.

Wayne was a kind and gentle soul who was beloved by his patients and the nurses with whom he worked throughout his career. As life came full circle, many of the babies Wayne helped bring into the world became part of the Floyd community that surrounded and supported him during his later years. His family is deeply grateful for the love, kindness and care that was returned to him and to our family.

We are especially thankful for Nurse Practitioner, Danielle Ogle, who provided excellent care for Wayne during the last years of his life, as well as Lisa Poff, Anitra Kesler, and the staff of Carilion Family Medicine of Floyd.

The family also extends heartfelt thanks to their neighbors Paul and Mary Weeks, who provided love, support, and friendship throughout the years, and to Pastor Wanda Childs of Zion Lutheran Church.

Wayne will also be deeply missed by his furry friends, Stella, Ginger and Claire.

A wake will be held in Floyd on November 8^th at Pantoufle’s Bistro from 4-6 p.m. All family and friends are invited to come together to remember and celebrate Wayne’s life. Please bring your favorite pictures and stories to share.

Dr Pennell delivered my daughter many years ago and I remember him saying at the time “I have delivered over 1500 babies at this point, but it’s still a miracle every time I deliver one.” What a kind and compassionate man he was, and he chose his profession well. My thoughts and prayers are with you his family.

My deepest condolences. He delivered my daughter and was my most favorite Ob/gyn doctor ever!

So Sad to Hear of the Passing of This Special & Amazing Man & Dr. He was Wonderful to Work with For So Many Years !!! His Kindness & Humor made Each Day a Joy!!! His Patients Adored Him & He always Put You at Ease!!! My Condolences to BJ & his Family! May You find Comfort & Peace in His Wonderful Memories 💕
