Laurel Edward Thomas

November 15, 1926 - December 04, 2012

Laurel Edward Thomas, 86, of Floyd, went to be with his Lord and Savior while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a faithful member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Moran Thomas and his parents, Claude and Macie Thomas. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Danny Vaughn; son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Thomas; his precious grandsons whom he dearly loved and were the joy of his life, Matthew Vaughn, Adam Thomas, and Brian Thomas; brothers and sisters, Bill Thomas and wife, Marie, Cletis Thomas and wife, Shirley, Claudine Sowers and husband, Chester, Barbara Vest and husband, Sheldon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin Moran and wife, Gloria Jean, Troy Moran, Charlie Ray Moran, Sylvia Whitlow, Margaret Vest and Maxey, Ardelia Poff and husband, Tommy; Linda Hatcher and husband, Robert; Cindy Moran and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Randy McDaniel and Dr. Graham Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Lee Cemetery at Tuggles Gap with graveside rites by Floyd V.F.W. Post # 7854 and Floyd American Legion Post #127. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to thank the Skyline Nursing and Rehab C-Wing staff for their excellent care and loving support. Condolences to the family may be made at www.gardnerfuneralhomefloyd.com. David , Carol and family My heart goes out to you in your time of need . Your Dad was such a sweet and loving man. I only knew him for s short time but he was blessed with the most deciated family I have seen in years. The wonderful man he was comes out in his children and grandchildren.
