Gerald L. (Jerry) Schrader

January 01, 1943 - September 13, 2014

Gerald L. Schrader, (Jerry), 71, a native of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully in his home in Floyd, VA on Saturday, September 13, 2014. Jerry was an accomplished professional photographer. He worked for 17 years at Northeastern University. His work was recognized over the years in many journals and periodicals. After leaving Northeastern, he and his wife, Debbie, started their own business, Fine Wedding Photography. Jerry was noted for “capturing the moment” with his discerning artistic eye. Starting in his high school years, Jerry was an avid Fly fisherman. He created and tied intricate, original fly patterns. He was an instinctive sportsman – he was able to capture even the most elusive giant fish. Jerry was also a passionate gardener. He surrounded himself with beautiful flowers and plants. He loved to share his knowledge and nature’s bounty with friends and neighbors. Jerry will be remembered as a rascal. His irreverent humor brought smiles and laughter to everyone who knew him. But he was generous and kind to every person who touched his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Debbie Schrader, and two sons, Michael and Shawn Schrader of Massachusetts. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd, VA. 540.745.2007 www.gardnerfuneralhomefloyd.com
