Elsie Yearout Spangler

April 04, 1921 - January 15, 2015

Elsie Yearout Spangler, 93, of Floyd, died peacefully at home Thursday, January 15, 2015. In addition to being a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a life-long member of the Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren where she served as Deaconess and member of the choir. In the 1970's she and her sister co-owned the Village Square Restaurant where she made many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Velvo L. Spangler, her parents, Rev. William and Dora Naff Yearout, and her eleven siblings. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Bill Lawrence of Floyd; grandchildren, Joan and Kevin Daggett of Bridgewater, Steve Lawrence and C. W. Markham III of Floyd.; great-grandchildren, Faith, Katelyn and Emily Daggett of Bridgewater; sister-in-laws, Alma Yearout of Floyd, Betty Keith of Holland Michigan; brother-in-law, Sam Spangler; many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 17 at Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with Rev. Jimmy Cannady, Rev. Heborn Quesenberry and Rev. Kevin Daggett officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until 8 pm at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren.
