Alvis Howard Gardner, born September 1, 1937 to Harvey and Ella Gardner of Riner, Va. Howard walked into Heaven on December 4, 2018. Howard was 81 years old. Howard was retired from Christiansburg Police Department after 20 years of service. Howard was a member of Power of Deliverance Church. He loved visiting, singing, and playing songs for people in Nursing Homes. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Ella Gardner, son, Ronnie Gardner. Brothers, Billy Clark Gardner, Lee H. Gardner, Signal A. Gardner, Paul E. Gardner, Silas E. Gardner. Sisters, Arlene Ashton, Mildred Gardner, Valdna P. Gardner, Essie H. Gardner, and Betty J. Gardner. Surviving Howard is his wife, Nancy. A son, Michael Gardner and wife Paulette. Brother, Johnnie W. Gardner. Sisters Mabel Dehart and husband Turner, Ruth Hall and husband Jackie, Mary Jane Humphries and husband Kemper. Grandchildren: David Gardner, Philip Gardner wife Heather. Two Great Grandchildren Leora and Sawyer Gardner. One niece and several Nephews. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for the care Howard received. The Funeral will be at 1pm Friday December 7, 2018 with David Whitlock officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Riner, VA Visitation will be held 1 hour before service time at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd, Va. Now heaven has just got the rhythm guitarist they have been waiting for. I always enjoyed all the years I was able to pick with my uncle Howard. I'll cherish those musical memories forever. You will be missed but enjoy your glorified body and show those angels what good music sounds like.
