John William Mauk

June 17, 1943 - February 15, 2011

John William Mauk, 67, of Copper Hill, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. He served over 30 years with the Virginia Western Community College Police Department, and retired as Chief of Police. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Daniel and Mammie Spradlin Mauk and two sisters, Nancy Gray and Mae Craft. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Mauk; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Mauk, Tommy and Lisa Mauk; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Samantha, and Ashley; siblings and spouse, Betty and Sonny Hauser, Jimmy Mauk; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Flossie Moran, Gordon and Annie Nichols, Tressie Sigmon, and Burton Nichols. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2011 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with Pastor Marty Moyer and Pastor Maurice Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Thursday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Condolences to the family may be made at www.gardnerfuneralhomefloyd.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 9 East Church Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24011. The family expresses their thanks to the Infusion Lab and the nurses on 6 West at Lewis-Gale Cancer Center. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
