Mary Lee Underwood Cockram

January 10, 1936 - February 08, 2023

Mary Lee Underwood Cockram, age 87 of Floyd, passed away peacefully on Feb 8, 2023. Born in the Slate Mountain area on January 10, 1936, to Walter Guy Underwood and Dovie Hancock Underwood, Mary lived 85 of her 87 years in the Tuggles Gap Community. After growing up at Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church, she later became a lifelong member of Tuggles Gap Baptist Church where she faithfully served and attended and raised her 3 children. She was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Dovie Underwood, her husband Randolph Cockram and her brothers Alfred and Walter Guy Jr. She is survived by her children: Lelan Cockram (Becky) of Roanoke, Brian Cockram (Alison) of Radford, and Kathy Vest (Mike) of Riner, her grandchildren Daryn Cockram, Bradly Cockram, Aaron Vest, Joel Vest, Ashlyn Vest, Jameson Cockram, and Natalie Cockram. Also, 8 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great-great Grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. She loved sewing and making quilts, growing her garden, and canning each year. She had a servant’s heart and cared for a number of family members and friends in her home. A special thanks for the many cards, and phone calls she received, the Amedisys Hospice for excellent care, and the doctors and nurses who cared for her. The family will receive friends Friday Feb. 10 from 5-7pm at Gardner Funeral Home in Floyd, with funeral services on Saturday Feb 11 at 11am., officiated by Pastor Mike Bowman. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery at Tuggles Gap. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tuggles Gap Baptist Church, 16215 Woolwine Highway, Floyd Va. 24091.
