Susan Arnold Sutterer

February 13, 1946 - July 22, 2024

Susan Arnold Sutterer, of Floyd, Virginia, passed away July 22, 2024. After a short hospital stay, she was brought home for Hospice care. She is survived by her husband, Ron Sutterer, two daughters (Kristie Beaulieu and Megan Atkinson), and four grandchildren (Corrine Atkinson, Jeb Atkinson, Jolie Atkinson, and Kodie Hayes. She was the daughter of Sherwood and Delores Arnold and grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. She attended college at Wake Forest University, where she met her husband. They lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina before moving to Syracuse, New York in 1971. Susan worked as a research assistant in the Department of Cytology, and then Physiology, at the SUNY Upstate Medical Center. Ron and Susan Sutterer upon retirement yearned to move back to the southern area. Floyd, Virginia is where they fell in love again and wanted their new lives. Susan was very sweet and liked by everyone she met. She gave annual donations to the Wounded Warriors Project and participated in a project to ship cookies to military abroad (Baking Gals). For years she was a major organizer of the annual Empty Bowls project. In lieu of flowers, please give any donations in her name to NRV Empty Bowls. A celebration of life will be planned at some future date.
