Linda Jane Holman Morris
June 03, 1962 - May 10, 2025
Linda Jane Holman Morris, age 62, of Copper Hill, passed away in the early afternoon of May 10, 2025, at her home. She was surrounded by her loved ones who remained by her side until the end. Linda was born at Wright-Patterson Air Force, Dayton, Ohio on June 3, 1962. She was the youngest daughter born to her late parents.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Barbara and Richard Holman; sister and brothers, Teresa, Mark and Thomas “Tommy” Holman. She is survived by her loving husband, Samuel “Sam” Morris, and her daughters, Jessica (Justin) Smith, Samantha (Jason) Morris, Monica (Kevin) Minter; and her chosen daughter, Kristina (Travis) Bowles; and her chosen son, Darion Akers; and her sisters Debbie (John) Daymude, Tina Holman, and Liesa (Tommy) Holman. She is also survived by her darling grandchildren; Lily and Casey Smith and Mimi and Olivia Hicks; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Linda met her husband, Sam, when they were both sixteen years old at the smoking block of Floyd County High School. Soon after, they became high school sweethearts. They married in 1981 and shortly moved to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina while Sam served in the United States Marine Corp. Upon returning to Virgina, they began to build their family. Together, they raised three fierce, determined, and compassionate daughters. Linda provided a loving home and a respite space becoming a second mother to many. She also played softball and competed in bowling leagues with family and friends.
She was a staple in the Floyd County school community, whether it be through her work with children with disabilities whom she adored or driving many to and from sporting events and field trips. She had a steady and recognizable presence at Floyd County sporting events for many years; many recognized her carrying voice loudly proclaim "I disagree" when refs inevitably made a questionable call. She coached and cheered on her daughters, nieces, nephews, and their friends through their sports careers from rec league through college.
Her family hopes that she is remembered for these qualities we all admired: her compassion toward others and willingness to speak up for those in need; her vibrant energy that touched everyone who knew her; and her fighting spirit that can inspire others to overcome challenges they face. To the woman, that taught us to be unapologetically loud and take up space we are grateful for the lesson knowing that we hold value and deserve to be heard.
The family will receive friends at Gardner Funeral Home – 202 East Oxford Street, Floyd Virginia, 24091, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 1PM – 3 PM. A funeral service will follow at 3pm with Rev. Amber Harris officiating. In lieu of the flowers, we ask that people consider the Floyd County Special Olympics (Checks must be written to Floyd County High School and in the memo note that it is for the Floyd County Special Olympics).

What a wonderful person you were to me and my family…. I enjoyed the times we talked and laughed together. You really made a great impression on our daughter, Whittney. I wanted to thank you for that. I believe there were alot more kids out there that would say the same. Whittney enjoyed you on the bus too. She always yelled at you going by…. You were an incredible person.. I am going to miss you standing in the hall ways at School…. Love you Linda..
