Peter Seidemann

August 24, 1930 - August 25, 2025

Peter Seidemann, 95, was born on August 24, 1930 in Hamburg, Germany to Albert and Anna Seidemann. He was the second born of three children.

His early years were difficult times growing up in Germany during WWII. His father was forced to enlist in the German army and lost his life in battle. His mother, in order to protect the family, separated the children to different locations. Peter spent time in Austria with a foster family until the war was over. As a young man he immigrated to Sweden where there was a need for welders in the shipyards. There he met his wife, Stina, and they married on October 3, 1959. They started their family and had two children while in Sweden. While working at the shipyard in Uddevalla, Sweden, he studied to become an Engineer, after work taking classes in night school. After getting his degree he secured a job with a shipyard in New Orleans, Louisiana and the family immigrated to the United States. After a short time there, he secured his career position as an Engineer with the American Bureau of Shipping and proudly became a United States Citizen in 1975. After a successful career living in New York City, New York and then Houston, Texas, he retired to Floyd, Virginia in 1998 to be near his son and his family.

Peter passed away on August 25, 2025. Left to cherish his memory are his son Roald (Barbie) Seidemann and daughter Carola (Chakib) Bousserghine as well as grandchildren Anna (Christopher) Reid, Andrew (Katie) Seidemann, Gail (Jake) Krycia, Matthew (Hannah) Seidemann, Kristina Bousserghine, Andre Bousserghine, and great grandchildren Linnea Seidemann, Caroline Reid, Elliot Reid, and Abigail Reid as well as many loving relatives overseas.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Anna Seidemann, sister Eva Schulze and brother Heinz Seidemann.

Peter was a devout Christ follower and served in his local church in New York as Treasurer for many years setting a Godly example of faithfulness and service. In his later years he held tightly to Psalm 121 reading it aloud daily.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at Grace Baptist Church in Floyd, Virginia on September 27, 2025 at 3:00 pm to celebrate his long and wonderful life.

He will be missed greatly by his family and all who knew him.

A special thank you to his caregivers from Love by Hope: Sandra, Karen, Hope, and Anthony.

So sorry to hear of Peter's death. He was a good friend to me. I enjoyed having coffee and sweet rolls with him on several occasions. He was always interesting and I would come away learning new things. He had perfect handwriting! Peter was a very good man and he will be missed.
