Luther Waldren Galyean

June 18, 1943 - September 05, 2025

Luther W. Galyean, 82, of Copper Hill, passed away on Friday September 5, 2025. Luther started with VDOT at the age of 19 working on the survey crew and moved up to construction inspector. He was most proud of his work as lead inspector on the construction of I-77 on Fancy Gap Mountain. After years as a construction inspector, he moved into the position of traffic safety and engineering. He retired in 1995 from VDOT after 33 years of service. He had a passion for antique vehicles and enjoyed restoring them and showing them at local car shows. He was preceded in death by his parents: Luther Waldren Galyean, Sr. and Lillie Mae Galyean Melton. He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Brenda Conner Galyean, of the home; daughter: Jackie Galyean, of Christiansburg; step-daughters: Dixie Young (Eddie) of Penhook, VA, April Wade (Steven) of Floyd, and their children; sisters: Carol Mae Elliott of Galax, Judy Spears (Gary) of Ennice, NC, Barbara Collins (Terry), Winston Salem, NC; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday September 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Gardner Funeral Home with Steven Wade and Pastor Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before service time on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to St. Jude Foundation.
