Larry James Perkins

September 04, 1955 - December 31, 2025

Larry Perkins, 70, of Floyd, VA passed away peacefully in his home, Wednesday December 31, 2025.

Larry worked hard most of his life as an entrepreneur. He spent most of his days either running a trucking company, driving a truck, logging, and excavating. He was never the type to sit still for very long and always had to be doing something productive. His most recent last few years have been spent as a dump truck driver for SR Goff, where he made many acquaintances and friends.

He recently, in September of 2025, made the decision to retire from driving a truck and spend the rest of his days working in his own shop with his grandson, Derek. He had a love for restoration of old vehicles and had set a goal some 20+ years ago to finish an old 1949 Ford Pickup, and accomplished that goal this past year. He also liked tinkering with boats and going out on the water to fish from time to time.

Larry is preceded in death by his son, Bradley Perkins; his father and mother, Clyde and Carolene Perkins; brother, Frankie Perkins; sister, Lois Perkins.

Larry is survived by grandsons, Derek Perkins and Nathan Perkins; son, Brian Perkins; sisters, Sandra Huff (Billy), Audrey Pascoe (Dennis), Wanda Pascoe (James); along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be Monday Jan. 5, 2026, at 1PM at Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Stanley Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time from 12pm-1pm.

I met Larry while working at a local truck/heavy equipment repair shop several years ago. Larry was always kind and respectful. He would always strike up a conversation and make sure I was having a good day no matter what. Hugs and prayers to his family.
