Darrel Elvin Reed

September 12, 1948 - June 19, 2026

Darrel Elvin Reed, 77, of Floyd, went to be with the Lord on Friday June 19, 2026. He worked with his family at Reed’s Lumber and Woodyard. In his later years he was a truck driver and then finished his work life at the Floyd Xpress again with his family, where he enjoyed talking with the customers. He was a graduate of Danville Community College. He was an avid woodworker making many different keepsakes that he shared with family and friends. A few of his many talents was making wax molds into candles and working on Grandfather Clocks. He served his country for 4 years in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elvin and Velma Reed; and a brother-in-law: Roger Hollandsworth.

Survived by son: Brannon Reed; sister: Jennifer Hollandsworth; nephew: Dustin Hollandsworth (Sabrina Schulze); great nieces and nephews: Lilah Hollandsworth, Emberly Hollandsworth, Shauna Schulze, Garrett Schulze, Kylie Schulze, Wyatt Schulze, Arick Schulze; spouse: Helen D. Morrison.

Graveside services will be Wednesday June 24, 2026, at 2:30 PM at the SWVA Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Gardner Funeral Home on Tuesday June 23, 2026, from 6 to 8 PM.

Darrel was my best buddy all 12 years of school. I always looked forward to seeing him when I came to see my family in Floyd. I haven't been to Floyd for five years so we talked on the phone. Sure gonna miss him but I know I will see him again when Jesus calls me home.
