James Ervin "Jimmy" Mannon Jr.

April 29, 1937 - September 21, 2026

James Ervin Mannon Jr. (Jimmy) passed away on Monday, September 21st,2026 in his home, surrounded by family. 

Jimmy was born April 29^th, 1937, in Glasgow to James Ervin Mannon Sr. and Lucille Mannon. His parents, his sister, Betty Mannon Hylton, and his brother, Wayne Mannon, lived in Floyd. During his school years, Jimmy met Martha Quesenberry and they were married 70 years in August. They lived in Floyd for most of their marriage. Jimmy worked as a truck driver, hauling for Bassett furniture, Rowe furniture, and others, and at one point, he owned and ran Western Auto in town. Jimmy and Martha had one daughter, Judy Weddle. Jimmy was always ready to return home from being on the road to immediately resume the role of husband and father, making sure his home was cared for and meticulously maintained, and spending undivided time with his wife and daughter. Jimmy was a hard worker and his strong work ethic continued at home, working diligently to spend quality time with his family, never seeming to have the need to rest or slow down. 

Jimmy was a musician, playing the guitar and singing. He was a part of several music groups throughout the years, including the “Buffalo Mountain Boys,” a bluegrass group, and then later he, Martha, Judy, and his sister-in-law, Diane Mannon, were in a gospel band, “The Mannon Family.” Music and times with these groups provided wonderful memories and friendships for him. In addition to his love for music, Jimmy never turned down the opportunity to go fishing, which was a meaningful way for him to build relationships, spending this time with family and friends. He also loved to travel all over the U.S., and he and Martha especially enjoyed trips they took with Wayne and Diane, dear friends Irvine and Loretta Hylton, and many other friends and family. He and Martha were faithfully involved in church throughout their marriage and they were members of Fellowship Baptist Church in Riner, VA. Jimmy enjoyed a full life and it was not until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s three years ago that his health declined severely and he lost the ability to do many of the things that he loved. 

Jimmy was known for his kind and gentle spirit. He was well-loved and will be missed by many. In addition to those mentioned above, Jimmy is survived by his son-in-law Kendall Weddle; his granddaughter, Jessi Brevard (Chris), and three great-grandchildren Caleb, Emma, and Anna, all of whom provided great joy to Jimmy as he was well suited for the role of grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors also include his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hebron and Doris Quesenberry; nephew and nieces, Bill, Wanda, Melissa, Tammy, Denise, and Tina; many great-nephews and nieces, and cousins, all of whom he cherished. 

Arrangements have been made with Gardner Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends at Gardner Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday night and the funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home.  Pastor Angela Carr will be officiating with Rev. Hebron Quesenberry and Rev. Neil Wood. Interment will be held following the service at Beaver Creek Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.  

I am so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing but I know he is now singing praises in heaven. I have always held Jimmy in the highest regards. May God bless you and hold you in his arms during this time. My love to you all.

I am truly sorry for the loss of such a great man. He was one of the kindest, sweetest men I had ever met. We used to go to the Western Auto a lot and he was always the best. My hugs and prayers for the family.

Lots of wonderful memories of the Mannon family as I was growing up. Along with my parents, we spent many hours in their home enjoying great, homemade music. Jimmy was always smiling, such a positive, uplifting and giving man who was fiercely devoted to Martha, Judy and now an even larger family. He will truly be missed and certainly never forgotten. Heaven has a new and beautiful voice in the choir. Jimmy made the World a much better place.
