Lois Shortridge Horne

September 15, 1932 - September 25, 2009

Lois Shortridge Horne, 77, of Floyd, VA formerly of Tazewell, VA completed her mission on Earthand journeyed home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 25, 2009. Lois was born on September 15, 1932 to Effie McGlothlin Shortridge and Earl Shortridge of Vansant, VA. She was united in holy matrimony to Estel Horne on December 16, 1948 and to this union was born four children, Larry V. Horne, Moneta, Keith D. Horne, Floyd, Sharon K. Beasley, Hillsville, Jonathan W. Horne, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband and parents. In addition to her three children she is survived by daughters-in-law, Peggy and Debbie Horne; son-in-law, Bob Beasley; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Roger L. Shortridge, Floyd. She also leaves behind an extended loving family and a host of friends. Mom joined the Big Prater Primitive Baptist Church, along with her companion and was baptized in September, 1951 by Elders Walter Childress and Fraley Beavers. Mom is our lighthouse, a beacon on a hill. She loved the Lord and her hope in Him and the Resurrection was unshakable. Her faith, strength, courage, laughter, selflessness, love of family, friends and zest for life shall shine brightly throughout eternity. Volunteer service was one of her great contributions to her community. She served in American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Tazewell County School System, Girl Scouts of America and Floyd County Community Chorus. The family would like to give a special thanks to our very special cousin, Mom’s “sister” and best friend, Shirley Cushing of Tipton, MI; the Carilion Hospice and Gardner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009 at Gardner Funeral Home with Elders James Moore and Ezra Davis, Jr. officiating. Special music will be performed by Sandra Smith. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd, VA. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home. Peggy & Larry, was sorry to read of Larry's Mother passing in the Blfd Obits. I remember her as a really pretty woman. I know you all will miss her, both my parents are missed. And I sure miss Aunt Sarah Ellen who was so much fun and kept us all in touch. My cousin Guynith & I went by to see Diane & Bud this summer. Peggy, email me and maybe we can keep in touch that way.
