Maggie Huffman Martin

Maggie E. Huffman Martin, 97, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Elisabeth’s House in Hagerstown, MD. She was born on May 25, 1918 to the late Vinton E. and Bura Jane Gusler Huffman. She lived most of her life in Check, Virginia. She enjoyed singing and worshipping her Lord and savior. She also enjoyed her flowers, crocheting, and her garden. Some years, she canned over 1000 quarts of food. She was a housekeeper and taught her children about God. As all true mothers, she will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. Martin and son, Donald Martin. She is survived by one brother, Ashby Huffman of Roanoke, VA; two sons, R. Richard Martin, and wife, Mary of Hagerstown, MD; Raymond D. Martin and wife, Alice of Shawsville, VA; daughter, Linita Collins and husband, I.W. of Check, VA; daughter-in-law, Aida Marie Martin of Check, VA; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Earl E. Borders officiating. Interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday at Gardner Funeral Home. There will be no night visitation at the funeral home. I didn't realize that Aunt Maggie was 97 years old. As time goes by we all go our different ways. I have fond childhood memories of Aunt Maggie and Uncle Ralph. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May God be with each and everyone of you.
