Sylvia Rosenfeld

June 24, 1951 - June 28, 2017

Sylvia Rosenfeld of Floyd, artist, counselor, advocate, activist, gourmand, beloved mother, sister, and friend, died on Wednesday evening, peacefully, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Sylvia was born in Bainbridge, New York, on June 24, 1951, to a family of dairy farmers. Sylvia met her husband, Will Rosenfeld, when she lived in Oneonta, New York. Together, they moved to Virginia in 1973. They cofounded a local chapter of the Appalachian Peace Education Center, Peace Vine. Always eager to help whomever she could whenever possible, Sylvia volunteered for many causes, including one of Virginia’s first crisis hotlines. Sought for her skill as a counselor as well as her extraordinary kindness, Sylvia went to work as a women’s advocate at the Hope House, a domestic violence shelter. Always creative, Sylvia earned a degree in Art from Radford University in 1998. Sylvia managed two health food stores in her life, showing her love not only for whole foods but for her community, which she sought always to nourish and support. To Sylvia's Daughter & Son, I was so stunned when I just saw your Mom's obituary as I looked for another persons obit. You know I worked with her ar Annie Kay's in Radford for 6 years. I have been telling my husband for awhile that we have to take a day and go to Floyd so I can see Sylvia. I know she left you with many good memories, as well as a lot of good advice for living. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Annette
