Alvin DeHart McNeil

Alvin DeHart McNeil, age 80, of Pilot, VA, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by his loving family on Sept. 8. He was born on April 19, 1937, to the late Everett and Nora McNeil. He is preceded in death by infant son Alvin DeHart McNeil, Jr. and siblings Ailene Sowers, Paulene Pitsinger, Marjorie Spradlin, Ada Mae Morgan, Clover Ratcliffe, Raymond McNeil, Aaron McNeil, Everett McNeil. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Betty Lynn Sowers McNeil, daughters and sons-in-law Penny and David Adkins, Angie and Todd Kast, Emily and Carson Altizer, Rebecca and Ryan Hubble. Also cherishing memories are grandchildren Greg Adkins (Chrystal), Katelyn Kast, Ansley Altizer, Reece Hubble, Leah Altizer, Rylan Hubble, his siblings Carl McNeil (Julie) and Lois Sedlacek (Ron), brothers and sisters-in-law Ocie McNeil, Gloria McNeil, William Morgan, Garry and Weeta Sowers, Nikola and Joel Eller, Viola and James Tawney, Debra Farley, along with many loving nieces and nephews, and loving church and work friends. He and Betty lived in their home in Pilot, VA where they raised their four daughters. He was a devoted member of Abundant Life Fellowship for 41 years where he showed his love for Christ by volunteering his services. He made a living for his family working 23 years at Volvo. Alvin’s passions included woodworking, gardening, watching sports (especially Virginia Tech), hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and other family members. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 10, from 4 to 7 pm at Abundant Life Fellowship. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am on Monday, September 11 at Abundant Life Fellowship with Pastors Ray McDaniel and Earl Hanks presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, VA. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Abundant Life Fellowship for building funds in memory of Alvin McNeil.
