Gary D. Darby, age 79, passed away July 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Violet; his children: Lynne (Michael) Butler of Mystic, CT, Amy (William) Ware of Bumpass, VA, and Steve (Deana) Darby of Hazel Green, AL; eight grandchildren: Kristen (Gabriel) Torres and one great-grandchild, Isabel Torres, Jeff Butler, Kaitlin Ware, Chris (Olivia) Ware, Sarah (Paul) Grubbs, Luke Butler, Steven Darby, and Nathan Ware. Gary was born in Gaylord, Michigan in 1939. He was a retired computer programmer and analyst, who enjoyed traveling and showing his family the world. Gary also enjoyed the country life in Floyd, VA, where he resided for the past 26 years. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Wednesday July 18, 2018 at the Gardner Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Nester officiating. Family will receive friends Tuesday July 17, 2018 from 6 until 8 PM at the Gardner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Floyd County Volunteer Rescue Squad. We were so very sorry to see Gary’s obituatary today in the Floyd Press. We just came to the cabin on Saturday and had not been here for quite some time.
